Baby Week Leeds launched in September 2016, is an early years initiative helping to bring and celebrate services from across the sector together and is an adaptation of Semana do Bebe (UNICEF 2010). It’s aim is raising awareness of the baby’s important growth and development mentally and physically in order to give the best start.
Baby Week was inspired by a research visit to Canela (Brazil) by Churchill fellow Lucy Potter, originally adapted from the Brazilian ‘Semana do Bebe’. Leeds hosted the first English speaking week and since has had interest from several other towns and cities including Hull and Bradford. Baby Week Leeds is an initiative aimed at bringing sectors and services together to promote the Best Start in life and is back for its third year this November and the theme is ‘Better Conversations’. We would be grateful for your support in promoting the week and sharing details of it with friends, family and colleagues over the coming weeks.
Baby Week Leeds will have many events throughout the city including libraries, your local children centres, city centre events and much more. It’s great to see so many partners involved this year so please visit the website to reserve your place.
The opening ceremony at Leeds Civic Hall will focus on bring sectors together and launching a new app ’50 things before 5’ as well as being an opportunity to meet the founder, our new baby week champion and many guest speakers. This will be followed by a one day conference at the Marriott Hotel with topics and discussions on making every contact count, preparation for parenthood, breastfeeding, infantmental health, experienced bereavement, engaging with fathers, foster carers, speech and language and much more. Due to limited spaces, we encourage you to reserve your place as soon as possible via the Eventbrite link on the Baby Week Leeds website at www.babyweek.co.uk.
