Focus Group – Supporting Neurodivergent people in pregnancy and birth

We are currently working with the team at Harrogate Hospital to review how they support Neurodivergent people during pregnancy and birth.
If you are neurodivergent we would really appreciate your thoughts via our survey. No questions are compulsory so fill in as much or as little as you’d like.
If you would prefer to chat to someone rather than fill in this form we can arrange that. Please contact us via email – [email protected].

Fill in the survey here.

We will be reviewing the results of this survey and agreeing next steps on Wednesday 3rd July 9 – 11am, venue TBC.

We would love to hear from service users so if you would like to join this meeting please email us – [email protected]

August 2022

A quick snapshot of some of the tasks we have completed over the past few months in Harrogate.

Over the last eight months, we have made some fantastic progress.

Together, we have:

  • Gathered extensive feedback from service users across the area.
  • Worked to convey this feedback to the relevant people within the healthcare profession.
  • Developed our social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram), so we now have a strong online presence with a growing following.
  • Held regular coffee mornings to support our local service users and help volunteers get to know each other.

Experiences using the maternity services in Harrogate – Rebecca M

Here you can find stories from parents who have used our services across the local area.

Rebecca M:

My waters had been leaking for a week (misdiagnosed as urine by first midwife) so I had to be rushed onto delivery suite for antibiotics and an oxytocin drip induction – my nightmare situation! I had hoped for an intervention free homebirth but despite this my husband and I used hypnobirthing techniques to keep us calm and the room peaceful. I managed 10 hours without pain relief before the midwives managed to persuade me to have an epidural and wow what a difference it made! I absolutely loved the epidural and it made the experience a really positive one. The midwives were incredible throughout and my son was born without any further intervention. I had such a good experience I was thrilled when I needed to be induced with my second (again waters broke labour didn’t follow) and opted for an epidural straight away.

I had my daughter at Harrogate, and everyone was incredibly supportive from the start of my pregnancy all the way through to the birth. I was able to use the birthing pool, and our midwife, Hayley, was also our hypnobirthing instructor so we had a bond right from the beginning. I felt understood, respected, and the health of myself and my baby was paramount.

Olivia is my second born, I had my first in another hospital. What a different, more positive experience I had at Harrogate. I’d done hypnobirthing in preparation and had some birthing preferences, particularly around the ambience. I had the pleasure of using the birthing pool and my midwife (Rebecca) could not have been more supportive. She seemed to instinctively know what I needed and I couldn’t have done it without her.
